New Sustainable Fashion Store Opening at Borough Parade

Borough Parade shopping centre, in the heart of Chippenham, is excited to announce that they will be opening a new store committed to sustainable fashion. The new shop will sell pre-loved clothing for teens and young adults, as well as running sewing and mending workshops.

Refashion My Town is a community-led project that will be opening its first store in Borough Parade, Chippenham on the 19th of April in line with Fashion Revolution week, a time where we can come together as a global community to remember the lives that were lost during the Rana Plaza disaster in 2014.

Tze Ching Yeung, award winning fashion brand owner and digital marketing consultant, and Rachel Swatton, a master of everything sewing related, are encouraging the local community to become more fashion and environmentally conscious.

The concept of Refashion My Town ultimately reflects Fashion Revolution’s mantra, as it aims to reduce the overconsumption of fast fashion, encouraging young people to appreciate their already existing clothing and to refashion pre-loved clothing in order to help tackle the 350,000 tonnes of textile waste that goes into our landfills each year here in the UK.

This is a great opportunity for young people to learn sewing and mending skills that they may not have access to at home, but it also creates a sense of community where they can come together and meet other like-minded people.

Refashion My Town has partnered with Wiltshire college, offering work experience to their students, as well as professional skills training as part of their Traineeship programme. These programmes are an integral part of the mission of Refashion My Town, to not only provide work experience but also allowing young people to develop new interests and skills and to feel a sense of purpose and belonging in their local community.

“In order to feel happy and fulfilled, young people need to feel a sense of purpose, belonging and contribution. Refashion My Town aims to provide this, along with sustainability knowledge and the ability to be creative in their expression of self, through fashion.”  Tze Ching Yeung, Founder

Since 2020 mental health problems have increased by a drastic 74% specifically across the younger demographic between 18–24-year-olds and with the UK named as the 4th largest textile waste polluter in Europe in 2020, it is clear to see a call to action is needed amongst the community.

To become part of this very exciting project, you can donate your clothing, volunteer with them, shop at their shop and join their workshops.
